Okie dokie, I'm trying the option you mention above, but alas the script is
now asking where to find the tar file? I've done a "find . -name *.rar" but
it cannot find a single rar file anywhere on the Qube2 :/  Would you have
this file available to email over to me to aid my quest?  I'm sure with just
the script and rar I should be able to reinstall the extensions...

Ditto :)  But I'm eager to learn the insides of a linux box as much as I
know about windoze boxes :)  A bit of trial and error (well...lots of
error), and see how things go :)
