<snip>
I was starting to install RT,(request tracker) a decent help desk
system. It has a long history which I won't go into; its at
http://www.fsck.com/projects/rt if you are interested.
</snip>
Good package, I have it running on a Raq4i here with no problems at all.
<snip>
It uses a database, usually MySQL, Perl, and a web browser to keep
track. Perl as it is, is current enough. Though I would have to add
modules, I assume I wouldn't wreck anything if I didn't replace any
already existing modules. [ I am a little confused by the Perl setup
anyhow with the RaQ].
</snip>
Just follow the installation instructions, and add in the RT parts into the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf as it explains.
<snip>
What really got to me was that it requires PostgresQL 7.1.1. or higher
and apparently my new RaQ XTR only has 7.0.2. This creates a dilemma
for me. Do I wait for Sun to upgrade or use MySQL? I assume that
Postgres is so integral to the operation of a RaQ that I don't want to
even think about upgrading it myself.
</snip>
Use MySQL, forget trying to talk to the postgresql database, as if you make a mistake, the RaQ UI will explode ;)
Grab the mysql pkg from pkgmaster.com and install onto the RaQ, then follow RT instructions for using MySql.
Don't forget, after modifying apache's config files not to tamper too much using the web-interface for httpd configuration changes, otherwise it could overwrite your modifications (although the raq4's seem to handle this quite a lot better than the raq3's)
Hope that gets you going on the RT installation. It goes on reasonably smooth!
Regards,
Andy
