If you don't know how to administer a T-1, then you probably shouldn't
have gotten it.

Was it just coincidence that of all the major backbone providers in the
U.S. you chose the one voted most-likely-to-go-out-of-business by all
the major financial consultants <smile>?
I presume you mean you had problems with DSL providers; I did as well.
But you didn't need a T-1, a friend of mine does very well trading using
ISDN. Another bought a 64k frame-relay connection.

I know what you mean. You might be surprised at how many of us
originally went into the ISP business as kids because we so badly wanted
a T-1 coming right into our bedroom <smile>.

I know someone who fulfilled his dream of becoming an ISP after he lost
300 times that in a sour business deal. Stuff happens. Deal with it.

You miss my point. I was wondering why you were down. If you want to
be an ISP you must always be up. Our colocation center has never been
down.

Then you've got a lot to learn.
I'm a consultant to small ISPs. Learn to make use of good resources
<smile>. Either here onlist, for small stuff, for free, or to pay
someone for the complex issues that always come up. Know your
limitations. I just decided to hire someone outside my organization for
a complex security issue. Sometimes we have to do that.

We're always looking to partner. When you've got multiple OC-3s,

Of course. Why are you using cable if you've got a T-1? Cable as a
backup for a T-1? I'm not sure I understand.

most of us use neomail because it's easy. Look up "neomail" in the
archives to this list.

Don't use the RaQ's built-in majordomo. It's too early in the morning
for me to remember the name of the maillist program others are using;
someone else please help him here... was it mailman?

As I said, our core business is offering admin services,
trouble-shooting, and consulting services to ISPs. Contact me offlist
if you'd like.

You can do it yourself on your RaQ. What are you going to do for your
customers? You can also host primary yourself and have someone else
(us?) host secondary. Again, contact me offlist.

Don't you think he's got a compilation copyright? Would you like it if
he stole all your work? Do you really feel comfortable just taking
his? Or do you expect to get written permission?

Doable... a lot of work. If you're going to have someone else do it, it
might get expensive quickly. As Senator Proxmire (some of us called him
Senator Quagmire <grin>) used to say:
A couple of billion dollars here, a couple of billion dollars there,
sooner or later you're talking about real money.

Me thinks Senator Proximire was probably right in your case. This one
may have to remain a dream unless you can find a young high-school kid
who's excited about the 'net, and learn with her/him, together.
> thank you all, spammer brown
I have an 11-year-old godson who's always deprecating himself. I
recently told him he doesn't have to keep putting himself down, that
there are altogether too many people out there willing to do it for him,
and that he should always keep his head high, his chin up. The first
time you say it, it sounds cute. Now its boring and irritating.
Take my advice to Jesse and to you... it's unbecoming. Please stop.
Thanks.
