Use VMWare for those things.
Or use a seperate computer for that. Today computers aren't that
expensive (for a business) -- so I have "dedicated workstations". My
Linux main workstation, a Windows 98 machine for harddisc-recording
(Cubase), a Windows NT box for doing Windows programming/solutions,
and the odd piece of weird hardware...

You're wrong. Gnus is certainly available for Windows, and has been so
for years...

Yep, yep, yep.
I use multiple personalities alot. It gives me these features:
1. Message origins from different names/email-address (i.e. the from
headers changes).
2. A different signature for each personality.
(etc. -- you can do what you want; just put in the right hook)

Hmm, well - I have addresses that have _only_ been used on
mailinglists (even one that has only been used on this list), and they
all get spammails.
But in practise, a private newsserver wouldn't give more spam than the
mailinglist I think.
BTW: Help us fight spam. Support Razor (by using it):
http://razor.sourceforge.net/
It can even protect your whole server...
