RE: [cobalt-users] Installed POP before SMTP on RAQ2 with no results

At 03:52 AM 3/16/00 -0600, you wrote:

Have the other members their RaQs functioning with no problems regarding
SMTP relay?

I'm not sure what you mean. My RaQ2 doesn't relay. Which is good.

Do you mean you want it to relay? That's bad.

(Of course, by default, the RaQ will add relaying rules for every domain you set up, which you should then remove by hand. It's NOT A GOOD IDEA to allow relaying on today's Internet.

To be spammer-safe, you need to close your RaQ to all relaying, and to then to educate your clients to use (for outgoing email) either their own server (may I respectfully suggest one I sell for Windows-based systems <smile>? You can sell it at a nice profit if you'd like <smile, again>) if their connectivity ISP allows it, or else they should use their connectivity ISP's mail server for outgoing email.

There's an ongoing discussion on this subject right now at <lists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, but if you join that list you'll find yourself among a very close group of friends who really know the ISP-business; I recommend reading quietly on that list for a half-year or more; if you ever even accidentally make a fool of yourself on that list, you'll never live it down <smile>.

Can please those of you who have this problem resolved, share with the rest
of us how you did it?

I'm not sure what "problem" you're talking about. Are you having trouble setting up SMTP after POP? I can test your system for you if you'd like, and at no charge, as long as you'll let me post the results to this list for the edification of all. If you're interested, please write me privately, and when you do, send me a login name and password for an email account for me you've set up on your server.

We are a web hosting company and this issue can make or break my business

I really don't see how, since most webhosting businesses do NOT allow their customers to send outgoing email through their servers.

If you really think this is a big issue (and by your own admission, many of us do not), please advise as to why you think so.

Thanks and regards

You're very welcome.

I'm going to point out something in the original exchange with Will DeHaan of Cobalt which you might have missed, so keep reading <smile>...

Who owns waugh.com? What name-server resolves it? Is that nameserver reachable from your RaQ? This reject has nothing to do with SMTP after POP.

It's a completely separate problem, which you must help us help you resolve, if it's to be resolved at all.

After you let me test your SMTP after POP, we'll know if you ALSO have a problem with that.
