Re: [cobalt-users] Mail with Subdomain.domain

At 07:58 PM 3/14/00 -0500, you wrote:

I am still having complications getting the subdomain mail to work properly.
This is what I have done.

I manually added the subdomains into the zone record.
reset the dns from web interface

When you reset the dns from the web interface you most likely delete all the changes you made manually to the zone record.

Added the subdomains to the mail interface via control panel.
reset mail from web interface

Are these domains hosted on your machine?

Checking Accept mail for the virtual site still doesn't work because domain
is already accepting mail. Sending mail to the domains returns the generic
loopback message.

What's the name of the virtual site? What's the name of the domain that's already accepting mail? Exactly how do you wish incoming mail for the virtual site to be addressed (real example, please, not something like user@xxxxxxxxxx if you really want help from me).

Please pardon my ignorance if I have missed something, but I really need to
get this issue resolved. Can someone post clear steps (solution based) to
this problem. For those just now tuning in...

I don't think that's possible, being we don't know where your system is at now.

I have 3 domains : subdomain1.generic.com ; subdomain2.generic.com; and
subdomain3.generic.com all of which have been added to the virtual site
list. Upon checking accept mail on subdomain1, all subsequent subdomains
will not allow this option to be checked.

Okay, let's try one more time.

Answer these questions separately for each site:

What's in the "hostname" field?

What's in the "domain name" field?

presuming I'm a user, and I want my email address to be "jeff", what do you want my email address to be?

I know for a fact that this can be done on a RaQ2; I just did it.

Three different domains:

domain: nobaloney.net jeff.nobaloney.net mike.nobaloney.net
IP#: 209.126.157.68 209.126.157.77 209.126.157.77
hostname: www www www
domain name: nobaloney.net jeff.nobaloney.net mike.nobaloney.net
accept mail: checked checked checked

Each one allowed me to check the accept mail field. And each one accepts mail:

Email Address username

jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxx c2000034
jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx c2000039
jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx c2000099

Mail gets delivered properly to each of the mailboxes (defined as "username").

So why isn't it working for you?

Or are you trying something else? Am I the one that's confused?

It is important for each subdomain to have the ability to accept mail and
use the web administration interface.

Works for me.

If for some reason, even following these instructions you can't get it to work on your RaQ, then talk to me about having me do it for you. Privately, though, and offlist.

Thanks.

Jeff
