Indeed, we still use Demon (via POP3 collection) for our email, although
that is 'soon' to be moved to BT.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe BT offers you the envelope addressee
information in a header.
Personally I'd much rather have SMTP collection than POP3 collection.
I can pick up mail from Demon in either smtp or pop3 flavour. The problem I
see, is configuring the Qube2 to pick mail up from an smtp server as opposed
to the pop3 server it wants to see :| I've tried entering the smtp info on
the admin webpage, but complains that if cannot get authenticated, then
reverts the mail server address back to the pop3 one.
I don't know anything about the Qube2, I'm afraid, but if the RaQ is "real"
Linux, and if the sendmail daemon always runs in the background, you
shouldn't have to do anything at all to get your email via smtp.
Sendmail, in it's default configuration, always receives SMTP mail. If
your Qube2 is setup for the same domain name as you get mail at, it won't
be refused by Sendmail's default configuration. If not, you have to
configure Sendmail to receive mail for the domain you get mail at from Demon.
We have a customer who gets mail at <anything@xxxxxxxxxxx>. Our server
just forwards the mail to <anything@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>. When he dials
in, demon automatically sends him his mail via smtp. His Windows system
picks up the mail using the Mailtraq server for Windows
(<www.mailtraqna.com>, but warning: this is a plug; it's our product
<smile>) without any special configuration.
If you need more help, try joining the Linux List hosted by Mitch Bromage
(mitch is a woman, btw); write to <mailserver@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> with the
line: "subscribe Linux-List" (without the quotes) in the body of your
email. That list is quite inactive; maybe ten or fifteen messages a month
at most these days; but members use demon for dialup with linux all the
time. I'm sure they can help.
(The list is NOT hosted on majordomo, btw; it's hosted on Mailtraq, on
Windows.)
I'm trying to get in touch with Demon to see if they can temporarily change
their configs for our mailbox, so that the envelope-to header is not
stripped. Getting through on their helpdesk number is like getting the
proverbial from a rocking horse :|
When you do get through, they'll just tell you to use SMTP to get mail, I
bet <smile>.
If you insist on using POP3 to get mail (really a lousy idea, in my humble
opinion), I think BT offers you this functionality; maybe you can just
hurry the switch.
We're already doing hosting and forwarding for some UK companies using
demon, but we don't offer connectivity outside of the USA (yet).
