RE: [cobalt-users] XP/Samba/Qube3/Frustration

Okay, so I can go to "run" and type in the name of my qube, which in
this case is "www" and it will come up. I then double-click "home" and
that's where I'm asked for my name and password. I type it in. Pause.
Up it comes with the password dialog again, this time putting the name
of my machine in front of my login name (MYMACHINE\username). I try
every combo in the world, and it doesn't work.

So I'm at a loss. I can mount OSX samba shares just fine. I can FTP to
the machine just fine. I just can't mount it as a samba share.

Sun is of no help on this. Their knowledgebase is not working (last
night it wasn't at least) and I seem to be the only person having this
issue, so I'm at a loss. This worked just fine in my old Qube2, btw.

*sigh*

Yeah they want to do away with it because it sucks and you don't need it
because it hammers your network. I have my XP machine only running ip
mounting shares on my qube 3. What are you using for dns, because
xp/2000
rely on dns to resolve the names of the computers on your lan and if you
don't have dns setup with your comuter names good luck. My suggesstion
would be to setup dns on your qube , then point your xp machine to that
dns
server.
