[cobalt-users] [Qube 2700]Is there any hope?

Howdy!

I have a lovely 2700 that I recieved from a friend of mine and I'd
love to make it usefull as its so cute.

Does anyone know what the status of Debian or NetBSD support for the 2700
/ Qube 1 is?

I've used a Qube 2 and a Qube 2 restore CD to put an OS on my drive as it
seems I have a rom without netboot support.

The Qube 2 OS works but its dreadfully old and I cant get many recent
tools to compile for it, One of the largest stumbling blocks I've run
into is the old glibc version it has, thats stopping me from getting mysql
and jabber to compile.

I've compiled the latest binutils, make, gettext, automake, autoconf ,
awk, bison, libtool, gawk, perl, gnutexutils , texinfo and gcc 2.95.3 for
it all in /opt since I didn't want to muck around with the stuff in the
filesystem (as well as / is only 300mb!)

I cant get glibc 2.1 updated however, I'm useing the kernel source and
kernel-headers from a sun or cobalt ftp site, I get this when I do a 'make :

In file included from
/usr/src/linux-2.0.34C53_SK/include/linux/posix_types.h:48,
                 from /usr/src/linux-2.0.34C53_SK/include/linux/types.h:4,

Can anyone offer suggestions as what to do with this poor qube 2700 ?

I'd like to do the following with it:

Use it as a NAT box,

Use it as a VPN endpoint (ipsec, pppoe, ppp over ssh, doesn't matter as
long as I can route a subnet to it and then use it)

Jabber Server

Small PHP+MYSQL dev box (I'm just learning PHP and I need a playground)

Cacheing DNS server

Cacheing Web proxy

I've got a 10 gig disk in it and 64mb of ram so its ready to rock hardware
wise, I also have a collection of ethernet cards to stuff into it as soon
as I learn what chipsets are supported (I spotted a real honest to god
tulip on the board I think)
