RE: [cobalt-users] How generate a CSR for Thawte

Annicke

Its actually frighteningly easy..

1. Log into the GUI and select the domain to edit
2. Once in the domain screen, select SSL settings

3. Generate "self signed certificate"
Warning- make sure the "Organization" field matches EXACTLY the company
that is requesting the certificates trading name. Thawte require a
certificate of incorporation to be faxed to them as proof of the
company!

4. There are two new fields with encrypted data now. A Certificate
Request and a Certificate. Copy the text in "Certificate Request"
including -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and -----END CERTIFICATE
REQUEST-----.
Make sure you do not use a text editor that wraps lines or
anything..Notepad is best.

5. On the Thawte website request a new server certificate, and where
they ask for a CSR paste the data from the "Certificate Request" field.

6. Fax them any details they request in their response email.

7. Several Days later You will receive an email from thawte with an
attached certificate, open this in notepad,

8. Use the Cobalt GUI to manage the domain you created the self signed
certificate from.

9. Before installing a certificate I always take a copy of both the
request and certificate and the private key just in case.
I do this from a shell session

First su to root

then

cd /home/sites/<mydomain>/certs
cp key key.1

10. Go to the "SSL settings" pane
11. Copy the certificate from step 7 (the Thawte one) into the bottom
field on the SSL settings" pane. It's the one marked "Certificate".
Simply overwrite whats there with the one issued by Thawte. Save
Changes.

12. That's it!

Hope this helps
