I'm definitely going to test that program for another project, but I don't
think it will meet the needs for the current project. Without getting into
a lot of requirements, here are some basics. There are other requirements
or nice to haves, but I don't think they're as critical and most can be
handled by existing open source software or custom programming on my end
should the product not have the functionality natively.
Run on a RaQ3
Handle 100+ concurrent users, preferably 200+
No cobranding
Chat moderation
Ability to designate moderators/admins
Chat text transcripts
The first and second are obviously the biggest concerns. The commercial
vendors have not been very forthcoming with answers to the following
(they've either ignored the questions, said they don't have the info.
available, can't share it, etc.):
Will it run on a RaQ3?
Will it run on a RaQ3 under above load?
Can you point me to customer sites running it on a RaQ3? on any RaQ?
I've searched archives, searched the Internet, asked peers of mine with
experience, etc. and still have very little info. To recap, here are the 3
packages that are currently being most heavily researched - DigiChat,
RealChat, VolanoChat, with RealChat being the client's favorite at the
moment. So, if any of you know of someone running Chat Program X on a RaQ3
(or another RaQ) and can answer any of the above questions it may help my
client and I narrow down the potential programs. It may even be possible
that the project criteria will change if one product is deemed to be far
superior in performance, functionality, etc. even if some of the above
criteria are not met. I'm trying to avoid my client paying me to install
and test a number of solutions only to find that none are suitable. And
unfortunately, though I've been doing RaQ consulting for several years I've
not had the need to delve into chat server solutions running on a RaQ until
now.
