Thanks for keeping me straight. I understand the bit about the registrar,
but I want to test the site on the box before I change it at the registrar
(as its currently live). I thought that by adding the name and IP locally on
my 2K box, that my browser could get the IP and it would be testable from my
pc. If this doesn't work, I'll have my dhbolton.com domain hosted on the box
to experiment with but it might mean possible probs when the live sites are
moved.

Testing in this case means testing one or two of the advanced features
(generating emails etc), not general web serving. As several of the sites
were previously NT hosted and used CDO for email, I wanted to be sure it all
works when I move the site and change that asp code. So getting a test site
up and running is pretty important.

I'm from a development background not admin and have had domains hosted
before, written asp and php, but have never had to get down to the nitty
gritty myself. In fact I know I'm nowhere near that yet (Linux to learn!),
but one thing at a time.
