Re: [cobalt-users] How do you test a URL using an IP address

How do you test a URL using an IP address?

Assuming the host name/site name is configured properly on the Raq,
edit the hosts file (text) on the machine you browse from, adding hostname
and IP.

On unix based systems, the host file is in the /etc directory. On Windows
based systems,
it may not exist, but should belong in the same directory contaning the
sample file,
hosts.sam. Windows 9X and Me have it in c:\windows\ by default. NT 4.0 has
it in:
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\

Then browse to the normal URL you would like to access. The page on the Raq
should be displayed
properly since the hostname is embedded in a HTTP 1.1 request. (older
browsers with HTTP 1.0 can
not access name based virtual hosts)

Subject: [cobalt-users] How do you test a URL using an IP address

Hi All,

How does one test a URL using the IP address of a RAQ3i, when we haven¹t yet
transferred the domain to our name servers and have it pointed to a RAQ.

I¹ve tried:

    http://the-ip-number/domain
    http://the-ip-number/sites/domain
    http://the-ip-number/home/sites/domain
    http://the-ip-number/home/domain

and it doesn¹t work.

Many thanks for any help.

Regards,
Chris
