Well anyway, Yeah we needed to reboot AGAIN !!!!! I checked the file and
this line is the only one without a #
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.proftpd
Shouldn't that be
# ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.proftpd
and then from the prompt
killall -HUP inetd
or am I oftrack here ?

Ps. I consider switch to servelinux ! Would that be better ? What came out
