Probably the easiest way to do this would be to create a user with the
name of the subdirectory that you want (for example, 'sailing'). Do
NOT make this user a 'site administrator'.
Then your buddy can log in via ftp and deposit whatever he wants into
that directory, but can't go anywhere else.
Only one downside to this; rather than being yourdomain.com/sailing,
the URL would be yourdomain.com/~sailing (if you're on a RaQ4 that
is).
