For those interested in making the Cobalt OS to run on a standard linux box,
I fully support this! The GUI may be copyrighted, but if you had many
hacked servers, the ability to plug in a Monitor and a Keyboard direct to
the server for debugging and fixing the OS would have been a welcome tool!

If I had many hacked servers, I'd be investing in some education for myself rather than trying to change the GUI. The weakest link in the chain is usually the system administrator.

By making the Cobalt OS specific to a cobalt server it severly limits our
ability to fix problems on the fly!

Cobalt's OS is made for Cobalt's servers, so that you'll buy Cobalt's servers. How hard is this to understand? You don't want to buy a Cobalt server, buy something else and use Webmin to run the server.

But I suggest that you save yourself a great deal of potential legal trouble and take the conversation of "porting" (i.e. stealing) the GUI software off the list, for your own benefit. I'm sure Sun would not look kindly on your efforts.
