The GUI I think he's talking about is the Web Interface.
Honestly, IMO, this isn't a good idea guys. The GUI is copyrighted
material, and if you just start installing it on any system you want without
compensation to the owners (Cobalt/Sun), there may be legal issues down the
road. Just a possible warning I see happening.
I don't know why they put the master CD ISO's available for download, kind
of stupid if they want to keep some of their code copywritten. I went and
bought one because I don't have a T1 line to my house. ;) And the only
reason for buying it is if the Cobalt really crash and burns, and you need
to bring it back to the way it was when it left the factory (at least what
is on the hard drive, anyways). Downloading, heck even buying it, just to
install it on a normal system is rediculous. The GUI is the only thing on
there that is worth something (my apologies to Sun), everything else you
could get from installing RedHat Linux, or just about any other dist of
Linux. There are even certain settings (like the one's in
/lib/modules/KERNELVER/net that are Cobalt specific that you'd have some
major working around to get it to work right.
My thoughts are probably of no consequence to you guys, but don't go through
all of this trouble just for a Web Interface. It really isn't worth it,
both legally and practically. There are many freeware and GPL apps all over
the net that do the same thing, and possibly better.
