Re: [cobalt-users] DNS Problem? Admin, Email , Websites not accessible.

This is now very late, because I didn't have time to touch the list for
over a week <frown>...

So I won't go into much detail since you've probably got it fixed by
now...

Are you pinging them by IP#, or by domain name? If you're pinging them
by domain name (and not by IP#, and if you run your own DNS, and if you
point your system (from which you do the checking) at your RaQs for DNS,
then their argument makes some sense. To see, after a ping by domain
name fails, try a ping by IP#.

If so, then the problem is probably DNS. If not, then the problem is
their network.

As I've said above, maybe.

He may not know himself. Please try what I've mentioned, and let us
know.

I doubt DNS is a problem if it only happens occasionally.

Maybe. But whether he does or not, he's being decidedly most
unhelpful. Do you have an agreement offering any kind of support? Is
the system local to you?

We're finally offering RaQ colo... we include 1/2 hour of support each
month even with our lowest priced package, and we offer more as required
at reasonable rates. In my opinion, anyone who doesn't offer a
reasonable level of knowledge on your system and reasonably tech support
so you can take advantage of that knowledge, isn't worth your colocation
business.

We and others can offer you a service monitoring your system, and if it
looks like it's going down, troubleshooting your DNS, etc., live, in
real time. Unfortunately this kind of monitoring does cost money.

Let us know onlist if there's anything else I or other listmembers can
help you with. If you need someone to do some maintenance on your
system, check with Cobalt or with us, or with any of the other companies
who regularly offer Cobalt support.
