Try 'ls -l /var/spool/mail/.<user>.pop'
as this is the lockfile created by
Qpopper when someone checks their e-mail.
Also, check the /var/log/maillog as this
will have the entries from Qpopper to show
you what's happening when this user tries
to check pop-3.
That or 'telnet <server> 110' and negotiate
it yourself via:
'user <user>'
'pass <password>'
To see what error pops up.
