consult the linux-raid-howto, and the linux-root-raid-howto, if you want
to mirror an entire disk and have the second one bootable.
www.linuxdoc.org

i did it in january on a self constructed box with 2x scsi hdd, and i am
not very glad about it. i`ll install it another time without software
raid, or buy a hardware raid controller.

it might be interesting if the raqs can boot from scsi drives; so one
could insert an hardware scsi raid controller with 2 disks. (there are
even raid controllers for ide, but don`t know anyone who uses that)
