I didn't mean to start such a long thread and heated debate. I see this list
can get carried away pretty easily.
As others have pointed out, I was never made aware of this policy. I've only
been on a couple of other mailing lists, and it's never been a problem. In
many cases, the format does not make a difference. I've never even paid
attention to the format an e-mail comes to me in, since in the average
user-to-user e-mail it doesn't make a difference. HTML, though not in a
list, does have advantages over plain text. Eventually, all e-mail will
probably be in HTML, even PDAs, due to the extra functionally.
