I finally got a hold of my contact at Communitech.  They said that nothing
they did was in violation of any of the terms of service for their upstream
providers.  Likewise, they did say that the emails did not originate on
their servers -- they leased a T1 line (and probably another line as Brian
Hitchcock pointed out) and sent the mail this way.  The person was
apologetic that I was offended but only said to talk with the
marketing/technical people.   If I did the same thing, I'd have my butt
booted in 30 seconds.   I'm still not done with this, as this is totally
unprofessional and a far cry from the wonderful service that I've had so
far.  

Bottom line:  They think they're right, and even if they weren't right,
they used someone else's line to do it so it shouldn't be their problem.
