not intended to imply you were a cheapskate or similar (unlike me !

No not offended, just overly sensitive, is all. I often field questions
from people who imply that paid solutions are better than free solutions,
which is occasionally my experience, but not always by a long-shot.
I'm a tool-user. I tend to use the best tools for the job. Under Linux,
those tools are often free. Under MSWindows, those tools often tend to
cost money.
But I still use Windows desktops and some Windows servers, and probably
always will.
