I'm really getting disgusted now.. I thought I made this because it was
going to make my life easier not having to deal with shared machines.. that
the sites would work a little faster (maybe -wasn't promised that - I would
think it would be a given that 30 domains on a Cobalt VS 1000 on a shared
UNIX......)
RaQ3i has 27 domains, one parked
IP#1 is my domain and a parked.. both work properly, site and mail
IP#4 is a holding area for domains not ready to make live yet
IP#1 is also dns1.mydomain
IP#2 is dns2.mydomain
IP#3 is the shared name-based
There are at this moment 16 domains on that IP. All are now propagated
I tested the emails and forms this eve on all but 2 (nothing really there
to test)
The catchall patch and OS2 have been applied to my machine. One thing the
catchall patch is supposed to do is make a blind alias for every user even
if you do not physically assign one. But if it did that.. it must have done
this someplace other than in the virtusertable as I know at least 2 users
who have no aliases and are not listed in the virtusertable.
Since I am the designer in all but one case I have a user name and admin
privileges in all domains. That user's mail is fwd'd to me either using
FORWARD in the GUI or a .forward file in the users root. These are the
addresses I used to test with
In all cases (domains) except for one, all users are ignored if the
catchall is in place.
I tried taking the catchall out and putting it back in in the first 2 or 3,
no change.. but after that I sent one mail with it in.. not received,
removed the catchall sent again and it was received.
I have looked and looked and do not see any differences in the one that
worked with the catchall and the 13 others that did not work.
I even tried sending mail to the catchall working domain to an unknown user
and it was received by the user set to catchall.
One of these domains now shows no users in the GUI <AGAIN>
While testing the fill in forms.. all these domains are simple ones.. some
have no forms.. others have one or 2 basic contact fill in forms.. nothing
overly complicated here.. from the time you click submit to the time the
next page comes up is ions.. I mean like 2-4 minutes..
while the script is crawling along.. top shows:
12:50am up 2 days, 1:53, 1 user, load average: 0.02, 0.02, 0.00
39 processes: 38 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.1% user, 1.3% system, 0.0% nice, 98.4% idle
The message boards and scripts at mydomain are crawling now also.. My site
has been live for just over a week.. when I was testing before I was live
and before I made these 16 sites live.. click boom.. done.. now creep crawl
wait oh gee maybe I'll click again.. This is making a HUGE mess of my
message boards..
I guess I have to call Cobalt again on Monday... <sigh>
One more Q here..
In Control Panel>Services>DNS>Parameters
last night I clicked on the modify : Start of Authority (SOA) Configuration
for the domain, the top line there..
everyone says something different..
Primary Name Server (NS) Host Name admin.mydomain.com
or
Primary Name Server (NS) Host Name www.mydomain.com
Secondary Name Server (NS) Host Name (optional) [blank]
I have dn1.mydomain.com pointed at xxx.xxx.xx.202
and dns2.mydomain.com at xxx.xxx.xx.203
I suppose I need to change these?? <G> the machine name is actually now
www.mydomain.com
thats enough.. I'm going to bed..
