First my apologies for what will probably be a dumb question.
I have my new Qube2 running on a static ADSL line with a permanent IP
address. I have filled in the Internic form to have my domain name
(xyz.org) pointed to my fixed IP address and the DNS servers of my ADSL
provider. In naming my server (General Settings) I used the hostname and
domain name provided by my ADSL provider, not my chosen server and domain
(mybox.xyz.org).
Now I can get to my Qube2 by using its IP address (123.456.789.876) but not
by the domain name (www.xyz.org). I have setup the DNS server on the Qube2
with the following records
xyz.org >> 192.168.1.1
www.xyz.org >> 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1/24 >> xyz.org
xyz.org >> www.xyz.org
Now it seems that I need to submit a "Host Record" to my ADSL providers DNS
server so that I can be recognized both by IP and Domain name. How does
this interact with the Qube's DNS service, the ADSL provider wants my
machine name, which currently is the hostname and domain name given to me by
the ADSL provider (myname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx), not any name that I want to
give to the box (mybox@xxxxxxx)
HELP !
Does my Qube need to be named what the provider wants, or can I change it to
my name?
How do I construct a DNS record for my ADSL provider?
Where can I go for help?
