I asked Cobalt support this exact question a couple months ago.  The replies
I received made it quite clear they were "clueless."  See an article I wrote
about the experience at
http://weblogs.userland.com/qube/discuss/msgReader$199.  I'm currently using
an EXTERNAL modem with an INTERNAL Multi-Port PCI card I added - give me
three serial ports.  But that's another story...

I have an APC UPS attached to one of the other serial ports on my Qube2 -
running apcupsd on the Qube - works great for graceful shutdowns.  Plus, the
400W UPS will keep my 25W Qube2 and modem running for a L-O-N-G time...

One of the "Mysteries of the Qube2" is how serial port configuration is
done.  I suspect that I would have had success getting internal modem(s)
working in the Qube2 if I could have configured the port properly for the
device(s).  The setserial utility, which works great on i386 linux systems,
does not work properly on MIPS (the addresses are too large).  I've
researched this, gotten feedback from setserial's author, and provided all
of it to Jeff Bilicki at Cobalt over a month ago.  I suspect this is truly
"not Jeff's job" but I wouldn't have known where else to send it...  Anyway,
I never heard back from anyone, so configuring the Qube2's serial port(s)
remains a mystery.
