I was foolish enough to get and install the 2.2 patch. Basically that was
when we started to notice some problems. So far Cobalt systems has not
impressed me one bit. Last night I was on the phone with one of their techs
for about an hour, then I was hungup on, oddly enough when I tried to call
back, got the message that Cobalt was closed. Since the tech was in my raq3
working on something I have no friggen idea what he did.
I thought that I would never say this, but I am considering using my raq3
for parts, i'd rather deal with a REAL unix operating system, Commercial
BSDI, at least I have technical documentation, and BSDI has always been
there to help, they don't let you hang.
At least I can thank Cobalt for something, hell I have a nice memory
module, good size hard drive, CPU (if they didn't glue it to the board) and
cute blue plastic that I think I will melt down and mail back to Cobalt.
HONEST COBALT, I'm really not F R U S T R A T E D, see, I'm smiling :)

Charlie..
I take it you also installed security patch 2.2...? We did as
well...(urrgghhh)!!! Is that when your problems started...?? We (and or
customers) went through the same problems that you're describing after
installing security patch 2.2. You'll read posts here in the list regarding
attempts to "un-install" the patch, but that will basically accomplish
nothing (basically only removes it from your admin interface but not
actually from the system). All I can tell you is that after 4-5 days of
trying to fix what the problems that patch created, we finally had to have
the drive reformatted with a fresh install of the OS. We were TOTALLY
screwed!! Cobalt said the day after the patch went up (and was then taken
back down a few hours later), that they would post a patch to correct/fix
the problems of the original patch (for us poor souls who installed it), and
then post a revised version of the security patch that didn't have these
problems. They must be still working on it... I'll lay money that you can
trace all your problems to security patch 2.2.. but I have no idea how to
guide you in resolving the horror that little number created. Maybe someone
else here in the group and advise on how to proceed. You might also want to
run a search on the patch in the mail-list and see/read everything
concerning the topic for additional insight.
Good Luck
