Re: [cobalt-users] slow telnet response...

Yep. Happened when I switched from outside vendor to myself for my Northpoint sDSL line. It was to have happened on the 1st, so I expected any problems to occur yesterday; it didn't happen until overnight last night, and I had thought I'd already been through that. I've already replied to a previous email.

I'll be setting up reverse DNS; it also broke ftp. In the meantime the line in hosts fixes it for my system, but obviously not for others I log into.

Thanks!

Jeff

It means your DNS is broken. The server does a reverse lookup on the IP
address connecting to it so it can log the hostname. If it can't resolve
it before it times out (about a minute), it gives up, logs the IP, and
continues on normally.
Fix it so the server can resolve the client IP and your delay will
disappear.
