It means your DNS is broken. The server does a reverse lookup on the IP
address connecting to it so it can log the hostname. If it can't resolve
it before it times out (about a minute), it gives up, logs the IP, and
continues on normally.
Fix it so the server can resolve the client IP and your delay will
disappear.
