RE: [cobalt-users] Siteadmin at Raq3

"Unix" doesn't allow this per-se. It's a function of the RaQs web-interface, which no doubt runs a script suid to make it work. Khalid has given us a good workaround, as long as we can still get some statistics to work. And this should be reasonable, as the whole concept of a "siteadmin" is really the RaQ's, not "unix" per-se. If not, then Steven's plan (also suggested by you herein) is a (rather complicated) fallback. I'm awiting word from Fathi <smile>.

Maybe someone will write a
script that adds only random letters for user names and then anyone can
create an alias under that.

We don't use "random". We use a combination of letters and numbers that identify the colo-point, the specific machine, the site number and the user.

That said, I've already thought of adding my own set of scripts (per Steven's suggestion) that could be used to allow admins their own virtual "machine" to be administered completely through a web interface. If I ever do that, it'd do as you suggest, but use a string I create rather than a random one. But it seems like such a big undertaking, and I'd rather earn money <smile>.
