I'd have been real happy if the Raq3i came with versions of Apache, PHP,
and MySQL that were less than a year old. PHP is now (I believe) the
most popular Apache module on the net, and has an extremely active,
helpful, and enthusiastic developer community.
So the first thing I did when I got our new Raq3i (after using the very
nice any-newbie-can-set-it-up installation and configuration tools) was
telnet in and start installing the latest stable releases of Apache
(1.3.9 vs. Raq's default 1.3.6), PHP (3.0.13 vs Raq's 3.0.6) and MySQL
(3.22.29 vs Raq's 3.22.21).
I like my raq3i... I'm not enough of a Unix guru to have easily plugged
the thing into the network if it was a standard server, so I really
appreciate the work Cobalt has done to make that part of it easy.
But again, telnetting in to configure web software is where I am most at
home.
