That's exactly what MAMBO is. It runs on PHP and uses a MySQL database
to store content usernames and passwords, it does soo much. Mambo does
almost everything, Upload documents using a component, full privileges
related stuff. You can chose who does what. Lots of automated stuff,
such as latest updates and news feeds. I'm more than happy to set=up a
demo mambo site on a sub domain for you to look around. Its totally
free and does everything. you can build your own template in which
the content is displayed or there are hundreds of ready made ones.
The mambo site is www.mamboserver.com and a brilliant site for everything
mambo related www.mamboportal.com. I've been using it for a few months
and I've fallen in love with it. They could charge thousands for this as
a product and it'd be worth it.
its very simple to install. You just need to upload the system into the
virtual site folder. Change all the file permissions in ssh with something
like "chown httpd:httpd -R /home/sites/site5/web" then create a MySQL DB
With a user that has full privileges. Then go to
host.domain.com/installation
and Hey PRESTO its done.
You can give users permission to upload edit and what have you and they
can do it anywhere with internet access. When you login as somebody that
has the correct permissions there is an edit button next to bits you can
edit.
Click it and you are taken to HTMLarea3 which allows you to
edit/update/create
the content and saves it.
My staff think this system is increasable. Our old system meant they had to
use
deamweaver and WS_FTP and they hated me for it. it took them years to change
a
single line.
Mambo sounds perfect for what you need and there is plenty of support out
there
for newbies to mambo.
I go on and on and on... and I could for ever. This system can be used for
internet
sites and intranets. Give it a try. YOU WONT B DISAPPOINTED!
If you would like I am willing to give you a login to our system just to
have a
look at it.
Thanks Jason
