What drives Larry Ellison (and therefore Sun) is doing whatever will
hurt Microsoft and Microsoft market share.
When it looked like appliances would do that, they were all for
appliances. Now that it looks like it's a desktop platform that'll do
it they're all for a desktop platform.
What do you think? Have I found the magic equation <wry grin>?

I don't know about a magic equation but I think you are on the mark
about Sun's overall purpose in life. I have read articles and
interviews that support your statement. And I say more power to him.
(My husband calls me an anti-M$ snob. Buying the Qube got me an
affordable, easy-to-setup email and web server with the added perk of
being able to thumb my nose at M$).
However, I think they should have used all of the ammunition at their
disposal - appliances, desktops, servers and software (Open Office).
Of course, I come from a family that never throws anything away that
might be useful one more time somewhere down the road, so... <shrug and
grin>
