I know that many folks will disagree but SPAM was never intended to
encompass all commercial speech. It was about unsolicited commercial
speech.
What I am saying is this...
If I post a question about a PHP Problem I want to know all my options.
I want to know if someone has a simple answer and if not I also want to
know about paid offerings. I don't see how that is not a fair use of a
mauling list such as this. While I agree some folks have crossed the
line, many time as simple "I do have a package for that check out
here.." should be acceptable. That way I can see any free help folks
have to offer and decide how I should proceed for my situation. There
have been times I have done both. Sometimes I see something that looks
easy and I try it and sometimes it looks beyond me and I have bought
packages from many good folks on this board. Having as much information
as possible should be what it is all about.
I know you and many others disagree with that. However even when someone
decides to make that fact know they should keep it civil. Flamewars are
far more of a problem around here than the supposed SPAM that that
starts them.
As for spammers destroying this list? I think not. This list has been
an invaluable resource for both free and paid solutions for me and many
other users I am sure. I am sure the level of posting would be higher
if we did not have a flame war every 2 weeks.
