<best intentions on>
:)
this is a user list... not a mailing list of people that are interested in
commercials... We all get enough spam already and reading about how I can
goto http://somepackageseller/ over and over and over and over .... ufff...
I call that spam...

um... the first sentance was enough really... I understand... :) But i
think you have missed my point...

ok... So I just looked you up in the archives and I see your first post
back in 01/00. I think you should be completly aware of the fact that there
is still no cobalt "user" resources... Just a few people selling and using
a few free packages and bad how to's to advertize with.... it's pretty sad
reading the old archives... I would say it has almost stunted the growth of
the entire community... I'll tell you why next...

Let me give you a few examples of how the list was spammed...
One person on the list has over and over made it clear that they can do the
work the poster has ask about... (the poster is asking a user group... ie:
looking for help with a problem among co-users... not asking who can work
for money on his box... In fact the Rev (I wonder if he is... the last one
was a diploma mill rev.. (lenny)) was treated this way. and I have tried
to help him by writing scripts and trying to help with posts... So I really
don't get his recent post... But I do know that people on this list use
multiple e-mail accounts to spoof and advertize. Maybe that was a bunch of
spam???

One poster on this list has posted his website address over 3100 times...

ok.. welll.. those are traffic examples... check this out... :)

oh sure there are a few "How To" things around... and all are really bad...
They say Things like... Just run ./configure make maketest make install...
Well guess what... That ain't right.. in fact in most cases that will only
build bad things... or things that sorta work...

We use Cobalt twisted Redhat 4.? on up modified for our needs... It is all
managed and built using rpm. The consultants here have actually stunted the
growth of the community by keeping the rpm concept to themselfs... and tell
the user group folks over and over... make make install... that should do
it... :) and if they themselfs are actually doing things this way... they
don't know jack...

I have seen so many diffrent "Tarballs" in the way they are designed... when
I make a cobalt rpm I make a "how to" or spec file with the entire plan...
and I can then depend on it working perfectly for our system... or it is a
start in some cases to being tested by .. oh lets say a user group that
would archive it somewhere...

You just open tarballs and play with the results.... if you want to make it
part of the os you need to build an rpm... why is it then we only hear make
make install?? it pays :)

Creating an rpm is the same as writing an exact how to for a given system.

What makes me wonder however is why it dosen't bother you to read advert
after advert ... or "no content" mail over and over? How do you put up with
the hundreds of useless e-mails you must get from this list?
