RE: [cobalt-users] Re: Future of Cobalt

I'd have to agree with you on the Guardian Digital product as either a
software only solution or purchasing their appliance. Either way it seems
to be a solid product.

FYI - I downloaded a copy of their Community Edition (slightly stripped
down) and found it quite capable and very similar to the Cobalt Raq3/4 GUI
features in many ways.

FYI #2 - It had to have been one of the fastest and painless Linux installs
I've every seen and done. Installed on a 2.4 GHz system in about 15-20
minutes and it detected everything perfectly.. only gotcha was the system
had two Nic's and I wasn't sure which was primary initially.. even so that
was easy enough to figure out.

FYI #3 - Did you say clustering?? or fail over.. these guys seem to have it
down and tested with their appliances any way. It may be something for
those with needs for higher availability to check out.

Yes, I agree. Ensim is a very nice product! Just stay away from Plesk,, We
had nothing but problems with that software and their tech people were a
joke! Not helpful at all..

Also, Engare Linux is a very nice product as well
http://www.engardelinux.com/ Very Secure, No Front Page Extensions-- (who
needs them) But, they do have webdav if you need to offer that kind of
stuff.

I do, I have a cobalt and I bought ensim machine as my next machine about 6
months ago. Im extremely pleased with it. They recently had a price rise
with the release of ensim pro, but it is very nice compared to cobalt - far
more features, vastly more security (each host runs in a chrooted
environment with no access to the main machine), automatic scheduled backups
built in (that work), automatic subdomains, far easier to customise, skins,
built in webmail, built in mysql, reseller accounts.....

You will not be dissapointed if you are used to cobalt.
