Hi Willem, folks, sorry if this post comes after a pile of other
answers. I lost sites in the gui at one point and it boiled down to
losing the pid file for postgres in /tmp. As it happened, we had
mistakenly changed ownership on /tmp and a reboot saw postgres being
unable to write to the directory, no pid file, no postgres it seems.
Might be worth checking
