Re: [cobalt-users] Qube - please shut up!

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions to quieten the Cobalt
Qube? I have a Qube in my home office and it is way too noisy. I think
the problem is the fan. I have taken the thing apart and it's actually
not the fan itself - it's just the noise of the air being sucked in I
think - that coupled with the case resonating, and probably transferring
the noise to the whole case (bit like a speaker?)........

Anyway, any suggestions gratefully received, otherwise I'm going to have
to find somewhere else to keep by Qube if I'm going to leave it going
24x7....

get another fan, for instance from an old pc powersupply. A different fan with a lower air volume will greatly reduce the produced sound.

Another option (not recommended) is soldering a small resistor in the powerline to the fan, to make it less powerfull. This *will* lead to problems in time, when the fan gets dirty (it wont be powerfull enough to re-start after a power failure).
