If you can, hook up a null modem cable and see what's happening during the
disk check. It will give you a lot more info to go on.
Also make sure you are using proper IDE cables, etc. All the basics. If
the drive is failing, it shouldn't work with the 4i CD or the 4r CD... so
if it works with the 4i CD, something else is causing the problem - cable,
controller, etc. Console output during restore and/or boot can help quite
a bit with that.
