[cobalt-users] Qube3 Possible Problem with glibc Security Update 15578

I don't know if others here have had problems but on Tuesday afternoon I
decided to bring our two Qube3's up to date patchwise. We had 21 patches
installed. 

On backup Machine Q2

Uninstalled SolarSpeed Sendmail Patch#2 - Ok
Installed 16356 MySQL Security Update - Reboot - Worked Fine
Installed 16169 Fetchmail Security Update - Worked Fine
Installed 16429 Sendmail Security #2 Update - Worked Fine
Installed 15578 glibc Security Update - Reboot - Worked Fine
Installed 16306 Pine Security Update - Worked Fine

On older live machine Q1

Uninstalled SolarSpeed Sendmail Patch#2 - Ok
Installed 16356 MySQL Security Update - Reboot - Worked Fine
Installed 16169 Fetchmail Security Update - Worked Fine
Installed 16429 Sendmail Security #2 Update - Worked Fine
Installed 15578 glibc Security Update - Reboot - Ok
   GUI was slow in logging in but still operational at this point
Installed 16306 Pine Security Update - Worked Fine

Went home a few minutes later after testing email was still working ok.

The next morning I had all sorts of problems with email - gui would not
work. Full details have been posted to the Sun Cobalt Qube3 Forum so I'm
not going to do it again. The end result however is that we moved over to
Q2 and Q1 is accessible but badly damaged. It will require a OS restore.
Apart from chkrootkit0.39a, SMA (sendmail log analyser) and memtester we
have no other packages installed.

Not wanting to cause trouble but perhaps you should be careful before
installing particularly the big glibc patch 15578.

Others have posted problem (on the Qube3 forum) but it's been pretty quiet
on this list. Have others here installed these patches without any issues?
