With some of the recent issues that have cropped up, and some updates I
need to do, I have really wanted to setup a test bed of my RaQ3. I have
a program called Virtual PC which very effectively emulates a stand
alone computer onto which I can create a virtual drive, format it, and
install any OS that will run on the hardware being emulated. I have
found this package an invaluable tool. I have Linux 6.1, 7.0, Dos 6.22,
win 3.1, several different setups of windows 9x and win 2K. We do not
own our RaQ3 - we lease it on a server farm, so I have never actually
had a chance to even physically touch it, not to mention never having
done a restore from the CD. I recently downloaded the restore ISO from
the ftp site, but much to my dismay, when I went to install from the CD,
it tells me I have to re-boot and hold down 2 keys on the front of the
RaQ box to start the actual install. Is there any way I can get around
this? is there some keyboard combo I could use that would emulate those
front panel buttons? or is there a way to create a boot floppy that
would in turn start the correct install? To have a test bed to work from
would be a HUGE help to me. With rumors of Sun pulling support for our
cobalt boxes, I really need to learn the nuts and bolts better than I do
now without risking my customers in the process and this would really be
the best way. I am certainly not prepared to purchase a RaQ3 just to run
as a test bed, especially if Sun is pulling support for them. Any help
would be appreciated, and I have not been able to find any relevant info
in the archives.
