Greetings! As I am thinking about renting a RaQ3 for 99 Euros a month at
http://www.hosteurope.de, I am wondering which upgrade options there
are, seeing that the stock kernel & glibc that come with this machine
are pretty old. I found a thread from last July:
http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-security/2002-July/005679.html
which provides a link to some unofficial 2.4 kernel distro at
ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/users/thockin/2.4/
which is dead however. Does anyone know if/where it can be found still?
Any ideas as to upgrading glibc?
Why do I think that I need a 2.4 kernel? - I'd like to have stateful
firewalling via iptables, advanced (policy) routing (a.k.a. traffic
shaping), and might like to put ipsec into the kernel. I also want a
custom kernel anyway since I'd like to disable loadable modules for
security reasons.
What do I intend to do with it? - Run Apache, PHP, PostgreSQL mostly.
Any hints appreciated!
Regards, Frank
