If he can add an MX record, then he IS maintaining their dns.  The exchange
server will need an A record, unless it already has one in another domain.
If the server already has a fully qualified domain name (ie:
mail.domain2.com), you'll need in domain1.com (the one on the RAQ):
IN    MX    mail.domain2.com

If the the server will be in domain 1, you'll need:

mail    IN    A    IP.OF.MAIL.SERVER
          IN    MX    mail.domain1.com
