I think even before we look at replacing the OS, we need to spec out some
system things:

For Example
A replacement OS should have the convenience for both system owner and
customer that is afforded by the Cobalt GUI. As much as I rail against
the dumb cluckisms in the Cobalt Way, there is no doust that the customers
appreciate the GUI...and if we look at our competition, the real heavy
hitters not only offer. but stress the customer GUI.

A replacement OS should not force a user familiar with linux to perform
unnatural acts simply because it's on a Cobalt platform.

I could go on, but the cobaltfacts list may be a more appropriate venue,
since as hard as I find it to believe, there may be many people on this
list who are not concerned with EOL, Sun's lack of commitment to our class
of customers, or who are ardent Sun Loyalists.

Of course, and don't hold your breath, Sun could either release the source
code or even offer a "you can buy this here" rewrite/enhancement of the
operating system.
