RE: [cobalt-users] [Raq4] Max Hard Drive Size?

Jeff..

Sorry if you took my comments personally or as being testy.. they weren't
intended that way. They are simply my own opinions.

As to so many of the topics in this list it is my assumption that a high
percentage of participants here are more than novice users/admins and are
looking for alternative ways to gain capability/functionality with hardware
that has or is near EOL (End Of Life). If that were not the case (myself
included) and $$ were no object I guessing we'd all find better things to do
with our time and simply buy new Raq550's etc.. and be done with it till
they EOL'd.

Jeff - All of your points here are valid for consideration and I certainly
would not encourage anyone to take any comments related about these or most
issues as gospel. I certainly have not as of yet tested the notebook
drive/RAID arrangement yet but do plan on it over the next few weeks. I
think as everyone knows that anytime you change anything on a Raq/Qube other
than what Sun specifically approves of you have just voided your support
from them and possibly any warrantee on the product.

FYI - Keep in mind the concept behind using Notebook drives is to try and
solve a problem of inability to use RAQ4R O/S (and Software based RAID
features) because of lack of a secondary channel IDE interface in some early
model RAQ3's and also to resolve the problem of a power supply that seems to
lack sufficient capability to support some newer 3.5" 5400 RPM drives as
well as most alone 3.5" 7200 RPM drives in tandem.
