Do you need to install amanda on every server you're backing up or do 
you just have to install it on the backup server.. the one with the tape?

I'm thinking all I need is a scsi card and I can use another generic 
server I have set up with SUSE on it. Then I don't have to worry about 
breaking anything on the Cobalts.

Thanks for the info, though. I'll investigate gnutar and see if that 
will install.

I'm a bit confused about installing rpms -- do you use the -i switch or 
the -U? I read that the U was for updating, but seems some people 
recommend one or the other.
