Dangerous answer. One of the first things that the 550 restore disk wants to do is update the bios on the Raq4. It then tries to reboot and install the software. Problem is if the bios does not take, reason not known why at this point, Sun won't tell us. Your machine is dead. So yes, it does do something to the hardware. No at this point you can not reload any software. Gerald is getting an rom programmer and is going to try and fix his. Oh yes, the rom is soldered in and not a plug in chip.
