Are you sure you shutdown httpd
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd stop

your original httpd was saved /usr/sbin/httpd.bassi.orig

cp /usr/sbin/httpd.bassi.orig /usr/sbin

That should restore your old httpd
Then of course do the stop start thing
