I'm no expert by far, but i totally agree with Gerald. A big percentage of
the questions posted to this list could be answered much quicker and with
less time wasting - like this post ;-), than waiting for a response if
people did search the archives (and google!) first. I guess it's because
they join the list when they have a problem and not before.... Prevention is
better than cure anyone?

And I second Thom. I have searched the archives many times and gotten many answers that had nothing to do with my search. I go through them all as they were returned for my search criteria. It is a big waste of time with so many garbage answers posted. I spoke to Bruce about posting some of his knowledge. He said he has a url, something like raqfaq or the likes, and he just hasn't had time to post his answers to it. A major Faq would be more beneficial than the archives.
