RE: [cobalt-users] Cannot Send Email

David, et al.

Oh what a pleasant way to begin an email, everyone here is so nice. Let me
see if I can meet your need for better facts from the questions that you
wrote. Yes their inability to send email is for 3 of the 6 domains with no
readily apparent differences. No not all users in a given domain just a few
in each domain have trouble sending email. This is what makes it so
frustrating.

Yes I understand the security risk of placing subnets and domains there.
This will be changed once this email problem is resolved. Any facts you can
recommend on best practices after that happens?

Yes the names of the fields I listed correspond to a configuration that
looks like:

host: www
domain: domain.com
alias: domain.com
email alias: domain.com

Then in the server management screen I place www.domain.com for each domain.
Now let me clarify things a bit here I specifically wanted to know in the
"server management" screen if an entry in the form of: www.domain.com go in
either the:

Relay for the following host/domains OR Host/Domain Aliases

I have all my domains in both and have tried various permutations to no
effect regardless of the combination. WOW when you configure an admin
account to get mail you do get alot!!!! Thanks good tip. Makes me wonder
though what the heck is the forward feature for then??? I will check into
the applications you mentioned.

Thanks

Tom

You wrote a nice email, it just doesn't say much. Facts are helpful.

At 01:37 PM 6/16/2002, you wrote:

All the time? If so, what users on what domains. Is it all the users on a
given domain?

>3. All domains and users subnets are in the Relay for the following

This can be real trouble unless they own entire subnets and then someone
can make a from @yourdomain.com and relay through you.

>4. All domains on the server are in the Host/Domain Aliases

What exactly are you saying here?
If you set up the virtual site as:
host: www
domain: domain.com
alias: domain.com
email alias: domain.com

Then under Host/Domain Aliases you only need www.domain.com I think. I
have mine set up this way and they all work fine.

This is normally them check to see if they have any mail.

It restarts when you hit save.

They should actually be in the virtual site settings.

My understanding is that this does not really forward the email for
admin. Have you checked to see if admin has any email on the server? I
did this too, but then setup a email client to check email for "admin". I
am not sure which get them, I think the client for admin is.

>Q4. How can I dynamically monitor the email log while testing with users?

I have a fast connection and using winscp2 keep downloading the maillog and
opening it with ultraedit.
